Definitely worth searching for, this first recorded Scritti features early Scritti signature song Skank Bloc Bologna, which is beautifully melodic and melancholic. Is And Ought The Western World is arranged like a musical dialog between instruments and Green's voice punctuated with chorus of both. 28.8.78. consists of arranged found news broadcasts somewhat like some of Brian Eno's stuff. The DIY (Do It Yourself) single was released on Scritti's own label St Pancras Record and distributed through Rough Trade Records. Cost of production was itemized on the photocopied sleeve/cover for leftest ideological reasons and caused a stir at the time.

Another rare item, this 7" EP was recorded during a John Peel session in June 1979 but wasn't released until after the 4 A-sides 12" EP (see below) came out. This fact is reflected in the packaging which is similar to the first single with the photocopied sleeve/cover itemizing production cost. The songs are shorter than the first seven inch, bare, a bit more off-beat, but still catchy. Scritlocks Door has Green's singing over Tom's drum. OPEC-Immac adds Nial's bass. On the other side, both Messthetics and Hegemony include Green on guitar. Hegemony starts off a few chords on guitar, explodes, and end again with a few chords on guitar. The lyrics have a wordy sound bite to them somewhat like rap -- foreshadowing next phase's Jacques Derrida which does end in white rap.

Last of the punk/early new wave Scritti. One can already discern the beginning of the next Scritti phase in Confidence, which has a rather conventional melody. Doubt Beat is catchy in an indie way, something one can imagine some local New York band would cover at the Knitting Factory. P.A.s drags on a bit longer than necessary. Bibbly-o-tek is confused and noisy.
