PREFACE

SINGER GREEN of Scritti Politti has been telling me about the background behind the title of the band's new single, Asylums In Jerusalem.

"It's about the mad homes they built for all the abortive saints that rose up in biblical times," he says. "There were millions of them that we never heard about in the Bible. They sat in the tree eating locusts."

Green, who calls himself that because he likes the name's "purposelessness," is earning himself a reputation for his intellectual approach to pop.
